Yes, 1983 is my Birth-Year…no longer so young again, most of people now called me “Bapak”, people who called me “mas”, “Aa” or “Kang” in pasundan area tend to be decrease. But it’s very reasonable because now I have 3 childrens 😂
I want to write some nostalgia story about Bandung in the time when I was born and off course telling my story too.
When I was born in 1983, my house and majority of the houses in my area didn’t have electricity. We still use oil lamps a.k.a Lampu Minyak or Lampu Tempel. The best one for that time is Petromax Lamps and we use torch lights (lampu obor) if we want to go outside, this called “cempor” too.
So, I have experience how sleeping with that kind of lights. one of very legend memories is before we sleep, we playing hand-shadow to make some kind of animal by the shadow of our hands.
I born in my own house (actually my parent’s house), not in the hospital or some kind of clinic. My parents just calling “emak paraji” to come when my mom want to birth me. To call emak paraji, that time still no line telephone, no cellular phone, and off course no smartphone! So my father go to emak paraji’s house and request her to come to my house.
Emak paraji doesn’t have standard how much we must pay for her services, it depends on who or what kind of family in term of economic condition, we called it “saridhona” as much as we have ability to pay, and sometimes there is not always pay in money, that can be some food, clothes, etc. I think that time, although my area is a part of the city area of Bandung, the environment is like in the village. The area or the demographic is dominated by Rice Field or we called it “sawah”, also other agriculture field like Corn, Banana, and various vegetables, include the Bamboo Field.
